electric blue

My prayers were answered - today was sunny and warm with no rain past 9 am! Hence we spent about half the day at Kilua Beach which is very pretty, though not as nice sandwise as our Sydney beaches. However, the water! oh the water! was an electric aqua blue...(the colour of your primary school crush's eyes) as warm as your bubble bath water...and as calm and smooth like the icecream when you first take off the lid from the icecream tub...
The one thing that really amazed me about the water here is that it's so clean (though salty!). There isn't any pollution, there's no seaweed wrapping around your legs like a sarong and its really just so clean, clear and fresh (sounds like an add for skin cleanser).
The kids told me today that there are lots of sting rays and turtles that swim really close to the shore, so it's possible to either swim with them or see them even! And Mum commented that Maui had even more turtles and was known for them...so fingers crossed that I'll get to swim with the turtles!

Mahalo

Aloha from O'ahu...
I'm currently in Kailua, a town on the island of O'ahu...about half an hour's drive from Honolulu in Hawaii! We flew out this past Tues from Sydney and arrived here to spend 10 days in these beautiful islands, relaxing, sunbaking and shopping! So far it's been quite good - we've visited Waikiki, had 2 days of good shopping, a thanksgiving dinner and we're off to the beach tomorrow to swim with tropical fish. Hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow (don't necessarily bet my bottom dollar on it); since it's been raining the last few days we haven't been to the beach to swim or tan at all.

The island of O'ahu is really lush and green. Even the steep mountain ranges are covered in thick greenery (ferns!) and there are hardly any bare patches on these high peaks - whereas in Australia the rock shows more than the green, and even where there is meant to be green there is brown instead! The water is really warm, even when it's windy and rainy...but the air has been heavy and humid, the sky overclouded instead of clear and sunny. Here's praying that the sky will clear for a beautiful day tomorrow!

Staying with my mum's best friend, her husband and two kids which has been quite fun - they're both adorable kids, but having an 'older sister' around the house is a bit of a novelty which has worn off on me a LOT quicker than on them! (Especially the little girl, Anna...who is loving having a real life doll that has long hair and coordinated hands to dress Barbies...) They've got me hooked on a cartoon here on Nickelodeon...hopefully we have it at home! It's called "The Avatar: The last airbender"...sounds cool and has awakened in me that child that loves cartoons and adventure stories. Other than that been keeping myself busy sleeping or reading. Shout-out to May who gave me a really great gift before I left, which is also definitely keeping me going. It's called Captivating and I'm really enjoying it. I can see why May loves it; it's steadily rising in the ranks of my favourite books list. Girls go out and get it...it's worth the read.

On Sunday mum and I are flying out to Maui (one of the other islands), which is supposedly very pretty. It should be really quite relaxing seeing as we're staying at a nice hotel and are just travelling around, sightseeing, drinking in cafes (fingers crossed), reading and lying on the beach (again, fingers crossed). Oh and who can forget? Taking LOTS of photos. Sorry none so far to put online...but maybe after Maui. Just haven't had time to upload them onto this little laptop, what with all the shopping and reading and eating!?

and faster than I can imagine it will be time to say goodbye (that's a song isn't it? andre bocelli if I'm correct)and I will be back home in lovely Sydney...which from the sounds of it has been rain rain rain as well... at least I'm not missing out on anything from back home...

aloha!
